Anything is a Mirror utilizes traditional Japanese four-hole binding. The title is from Agnes Martin’s Notes on “The Thinking Reed” (the title of one of her paintings that she destroyed in the 1950s) and quoted in Writings, published by Hatje Cantz in 2005. The grid is a scan of a section of calligraphy practice paper. Fragments of an image of Stefan awakening and the grids were printed on handmade Japanese 100% kozo kaji paper using an Epson 2200 printer. The font is Lithos Pro. Unryu dragon paper is used for the endpapers. The cover paper is hand-formed and dyed Kyosei-shi. The beautiful silk thread was a gift from Nancy Norton Tomasko. The idea for this book, as well as many others, arose while studying Japanese bookbinding with Hedi Kyle.
